About the Season
The intent of the Spring program is to provide an ongoing soccer experience for U10 and higher players with average to above-average soccer skills. Please note that not all children desiring to play will be chosen.

The number of players chosen in each division will depend on the amount of certified coaches willing to coach in the Spring Program and the availability of resources, such as field space.

Players are selected by the approved coaches during a draft process. During this process the coaches make the determination if a player will be part of a Competitive or Recreational team. Teams are chosen in mid January, players are notified in early February, and practices begin in mid February.

The season begins in March and continues until May or June, depending on the number of tournaments a team enters. The Regional Commissioner shall have the final approval of team placement in either Competitive or Recreational.

Registration Information
Following the fall season, eligible players in Divisions U10 and higher will receive a Spring Season Registration Flyer in the mail/email.

The Spring season guidelines do not abide by the "Open Registration" philosophy, which means that registering is not a guarantee of team placement as it is in the Fall. REGISTERING DOES NOT ASSURE THAT THE PLAYER WILL BE PLACED ON A TEAM.

Players are drafted based on a volunteer commitment priority system and coach selection. There may be more players registered than the region has space for.

All interested fall season, All Stars and APP Players MUST register to be eligible for spring.

Any player that did not get placed on a spring team will have their original check returned to them.

Player Eligibility / Priority
Children of volunteers that donated a substantial amount of their time to AYSO in the Fall 2008 season will be given first priority when forming teams. This includes Board Members, Staff Members, Referees during the fall season, Coaches who have head-coached a team in the same division as their prospective Spring player and all Fall 05 Registration Event volunteers who worked two full days during the previous spring events. (Volunteers who work two full days at the Fall 08 events will receive priority for Spring 09.)

Priority is not a guarantee of team placement, but it means that all priority players are selected before anyone else.

Saturday and Sunday availability to play games is a requirement during the Spring season for all players on Competitive or Recreational teams. Both OCSL and most tournaments regularly schedule games on both Saturdays and Sundays. Players that are not available on both Saturday and Sunday significantly impact the effectiveness of the team. If you expect you will have conflicts with this policy, it is best to take that into consideration when making the decision to register. Parents and players will be asked to sign a commitment statement that they promise to be available for both Saturday and Sunday play.

Point System
The Spring season games utilize standings with a 10 point scoring system. The 10 point system works as follows:

+ 6 points for a win
+ 3 points for a tie
+ 1 point for each goal (3 maximum)
+ 1 point for a shutout (opponent scores no goals)

Examples:
1. A score of 0 - 0 earns 4 points for both teams.
2. A score of 3 - 0 earns the winning team 10 points (6 for win + 3 goals + 1 shutout).
3. A score of 6 - 0 earns the winning team 10 points (6 for win + 3 goals + 1 shutout).
4. A score of 2 - 2 earns both teams 6 points (4 points for tie + 2 goals)
5. A score of 5 - 2 earns the winning team 9 points (6 points for win + 3 goals) and the losing team earns 2 points (2 goals)
