General Spring 2010 Season Information
The intent of the spring program is to provide an ongoing soccer experience for U7 and higher players with average to above-average soccer skills. Please note that not all children desiring to play will be chosen.

This year, we anticipate teams to be formed to the U7 and above levels in Ladera Ranch. All teams will play AREA wide (games in different regions & Ladera).  For Spring play there will be U8 (U7 & U8), U10 (U9 & U10), U12, U14 and U16.

The number of players chosen in each division will depend on the amount of certified coaches willing to coach in the Spring Program, number of referees available, and the availability of resources, such as field space.

For U9 and above, Competitive (Select) coaches will make the determination, if a player will be part of a competitive team.  Competitive teams are chosen in November and notified in December.  Recreational Teams are chosen in early to mid January and players are notified in late January or early February, and practices begin in early to mid February.

The season begins in March and continues until May or June, depending on the number of tournaments a team may choose to enter. The Regional Commissioner shall have the final approval of team placement in either Competitive or Recreational. Except for U8, all teams are ranked in the area to compensate for levels of play.  U8 there is no score keeping as is consistent with the national guidelines.

Registration
Following the fall season, eligible players in Divisions U8 and higher will receive a Spring Season Registration Flyer in the mail/email.

The spring season guidelines do not abide by the "Open Registration" philosophy, which means that registering is not a guarantee of team placement as it is in the Fall. COMPLETING THE SPRING APPLICATION DOES NOT ASSURE THAT THE PLAYER WILL BE PLACED ON A TEAM.

PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE A CHECK. Registration cost for Spring 2010 is $100.00 per player and will be collected by the coach if placed on a team.

The application process will begin for 2010 spring season on Thursday November 19th 2009.  You may get a player commitment form at the following link:
2010 Spring Rec Player Commitment Form-1

You may begin dropping off your application forms at the drop box (location below) on this date. The final day to receive the spring 2010 application is Friday January 8, 2010.  Once placed on a team, your check and the www.eayso.org registration form will be collected by the coach.

NO FORMAL REGISTRATION DATE WILL BE SCHEDULED.

All spring 2010 registration is accomplished through the drop box.
DROP BOX LOCATION: Cantera Plunge (41 Sklar)
There is a stand alone mailbox right outside the gates to the pool and it has a AYSO sticker on it.

WHEN DROPPING OFF YOUR REGISTRATION FORM, DO NOT INCLUDE A CHECK. CHECKS AND REGISTRATION FORMS WILL BE COLLECTED BY THE COACH ONCE YOUR PLAYER IS PLACED ON A TEAM.

Players are selected based on a volunteer commitment priority system and coach selection. There may be more players registered than the region has space for.

Player Eligibility / Priority
Children of volunteers that donated a substantial amount of their time to AYSO in the Fall 2009 season will be given first priority when forming teams. This includes Board Members, Staff Members, Referees who have refereed at least 3 games during the fall season, and Coaches who have head-coached a team in the same division as their prospective Spring player.  Other volunteer positions will be considered, but the above positions receive greater priority.  Priority is not a guarantee of team placement, but it means that all priority players are selected before anyone else.

Players who did not participate in AYSO in Fall of 2009 are not eligible to play in Spring 2010 regardless of volunteer status. This includes select player teams.

Saturday and Sunday availability to play games is a requirement during the Spring season for all players on Competitive or Recreational teams. Both OCSL and most tournaments regularly schedule games on both Saturdays and Sundays. Players that are not available on both Saturday and Sunday significantly impact the effectiveness of the team. If you expect you will have conflicts with this policy, it is best to take that into consideration when making the decision to register. Parents and players will be asked to sign a commitment statement that they promise to be available for both Saturday and Sunday play.

Coach Selection
Spring Select Coaches:
Spring select teams are comprised of recruited players from throughout our region and represent the best of our region. They generally play other select teams throughout the Area 11L. The select program coach often feeds the majority of the post season PLUS / FLEX program for years to come as the age progresses.  A long term commitment to AYSO Region 1455 is expected.

Beginning this spring season and future seasons, players who are on club teams (not players attending club academies) will not be eligible for Spring Select or PLUS / FLEX teams.

Current PLUS coaches will retain their teams for the competitive program by mutual agreement between coaches and the AYSO Regional Board. Coaches who wish to be considered for the U9 Girls and U9 Boys Spring Select teams should email completed applications to Joe Rizkallah (jar@uci.edu) or apply not later than October 15, 2009 at the drop box at: Cantera Plunge (41 Sklar).

Applications will be reviewed by a special non age group or board affiliated committee and the prospective coaches will be interviewed on philosophy and coach plan.  One U9 team coach from girls and boys will be chosen to coach spring select. After notification, the select coaches should get out and scout players as soon as possible.  Please notify the coach of the team you are scouting of any players that you may wish to contact for spring select. It is considered polite and hopefully breads cooperation in the selection.

The application is attached to this email or available on the Laderasoccer.com website under resources then coaches.  You may also email Joe Rizkallah at jar@uci.edu for further information but I do not have the decision making authority.

Spring Recreational Coaches:

The region will host U8 and up teams this spring.  If you wish to be considered as a coach candidate for spring 2010, please email me your contact information as soon as possible, include email, address, home and cell phone numbers and the level of coaching you are certified at (U10, U12, etc). If you do not have the appropriate AYSO training, you will be eliminated from consideration without notification.

Spring recreational teams tend to be more competitive and of a higher skill level throughout the AREA11L.  Do not request players or assistant coaches at this time.  Space is severely limited in spring and not all players will get the opportunity to be on a team.

You may email Joe Rizkallah at jar@uci.edu for further information. Please remember I am one person, do not expect long answers to questions, please include a telephone number, it may just be quicker to call you.
